Flaherty and Harper sing from separate prorogation songbooks
Second, the liberals seem to suddenly be inspired by the grassroots opposition to prorogation and are jumping on the bandwagon. They are now running radio and newspaper ads criticizing the PM's tinpot approach to democracy by suspending Parliament.
Finance Minister Jim Flaherty says shutting down Parliament doesn’t affect his budget consultations – they would be happening whether Parliament was in session or not. But that’s not what his boss, the Prime Minister, is saying about the need to lock up the House of Commons until March.
Stephen Harper has said he needed to prorogue to concentrate on building the plan for the second phase of the economic stimulus. But meeting with reporters today in Winnipeg, Mr. Flaherty said “prorogation does not affect the consultations” for the budget. The new doublespeak. Appeal to everyone by providing opposite messages to different groups.

Which leads to the third point so far today - the PM's response t0 the liberal ads. Wait for it. Iggy is directly attacking the troops in Afghanistan. He's joined Taliban Jack Layton and the other terrorist sympathizers and traitors. He's now Al Qaeda Iggy. The PM says that any allegation of a torture cover-up is a "direct attack on the men and women of Canada's armed forces".
Which re-raises a number of questions. Were the troops not following Canadian Forces policy? Which party was boycotting the Parliamentary committee? Which PM refused to hand over documents related to the matter by this committee? Which PM has disrespected the vote of the majority of MPs for a public inquiry? Which party attempted to "swift boat" Richard Colvin by suggesting that he was a Taliban dupe?
With the growing number of Taliban dupes in Canada's opposition parties and civil service, Stephen Harper had no choice but to declare a state of emergency and suspend Parliament. (Interestingly, the Afghan parliament just canceled it's winter break to deal with pressing business).
